Landscape Awards 2012

Each year several owners of residential and commercial property in Fullerton are acknowledged for the attention and maintenance they give to their property's outstanding "front yard" appearance: the view from the street. The goal is to honor those who provide beauty and promote care for the community as a whole and to serve as an example to others, businesses and residents alike. The following were the properties selected in 2012, with each of the owners honored at Fullerton Beautiful’s annual meeting held on November 7, 2012.

2418 Balfour

Joanne Ausmus & Charles Baker
Residence
2418 E. Balfour Avenue

This east Fullerton property features 10-year old artificial turf accented with a planted parkway, garage trellis, birch trees and, as the owners say, “lots of flowers because we love them.” They also love their reduced water bill.

629 N. Woods

Jennifer Nicol & Charlie Visnic
Residence
629 N. Woods Avenue

This eclectic landscaping started as a lawn, and it took a while before Jennifer convinced Charlie that this was the way to go. Now, they’re working on the backyard, getting clippings from friends and neighbors and also sharing their bounty with them. Backyard vegetables are next.

Magnolia Garden Apartments

Magnolia Garden Apartments
2030-2036 E. Whiting Avenue

This is the standout apartment on the block. The new owners (coincidentally Fullerton Beautiful members) worked with a creative landscaper to transform this property into a neat, attractive gem. They thought so much of his work that they even invited him to the awards ceremony.

Muckenthaler Euclid Center

Muckenthaler Euclid Center
333 N. Euclid Street

This caught our eye last year when
it had just been re-landscaped –gone for good are those tired Indian Hawthorne bushes. We gave it a year,
and it has “blossomed” into a very
attractive Euclid streetscape. Owners
credit Kraemer Land Company for its
continued manicured appearance. By
the way, the owner still calls this the
“Lucky” center, in recognition of the
grocery store originally on site.

Villa del Sol

Dunlap Property Group
Villa del Sol
305 N. Harbor Boulevard

A first for us – this is the second award
for Dunlap Property Group, having
previously been recognized for their
office building in the 800 block of East Chapman Avenue. The Villa courtyard was completely re-landscaped a few years ago causing a bit of an outcry, but now that the tropical look has become established, it generates nothing but compliments.
