Landscape Awards 2014

Each year several owners of residential and commercial property in Fullerton are acknowledged for the attention and maintenance they give to their property's outstanding "front yard" appearance: the view from the street. The goal is to honor those who provide beauty and promote care for the community as a whole and to serve as an example to others, businesses and residents alike. The following were the properties selected in 2014, with each of the owners honored at Fullerton Beautiful’s annual meeting held on November 9, 2014 at the American Red Cross Building in Hillcrest Park.

1541 W. Amerige Ave

Jan Comstock-Dell’Ario Residence
1541 W. Amerige Avenue

This treat of a retreat, in the family since the 1950s, has been a true labor of love, now tended by the Comstock daughter and her husband.  All of the plantings have been augmented by the owner’s artistic touches.  You need to take your time in this peaceful garden to soak up all it has to offer.

2532 Wallace Avenue

Rosalio Serna & Maria Ramirez  Residence
2532 Wallace Avenue

The owner moved in 4 years ago and wanted something different from the traditional front yard.  Applying his skills as a landscape architect, the owner has installed a free flowing, drought-tolerant landscape that evolves with the seasons.

2508 Santa Ysabel Avenue

Karen and Sueto Akiyama Residence
2508 Santa Ysabel Avenue

This long-time manicured gem started 25 years ago when the Akiyama’s moved in.  The adjacent home seemed to mirror their work.  As it turns out, the neighboring property is owned by their son.  It’s all in the family.

2401 E. Orangethorpe Avenue

The Grill
2401 E. Orangethorpe Avenue
George Kyriakos Trust, owne
r

“Above and Beyond Landscaping” are the words to describe The Grill.  It’s always beautifully maintained, with new blooming flowers rotated in as the old ones fade.  This property is a perennial beauty on the corner – and a great place for a burger.

126 W. Whiting Ave.

Westwood Apartments
126 W. Whiting Avenue
Stephen Sulzer, owner

The minimal front landscaping on this historic property belies the oasis at the end of the path that leads to a back patio where a tranquil fountain accented with colorful Japanese maple trees softens the bustle of this downtown location, making it a perfect place to relax and read that book.

3920 N. Harbor Blvd.

Orange County Emergency Pet Clinic
3920 N. Harbor Boulevard

Pride of ownership is reflected in this landscaping.  Recently relocated here from about a block away, the owners landscaped the premises with colorful drought-tolerant plants and river rock to create an eye-cather, appreciated by their clients and passers-by on busy Harbor Boulevard.
